Matlock Live celebrates Lottery Funding
July
Big Lottery Fund announced today funding for the Matlock Live! Elements Project running from July to December 2009. This will support a number of events throughout the year centred on Matlock Town centre generally and Hall Leys Park in particular. Activities will include a vintage fashion show in the bandstand on 30th August and a tented village linked with artistic displays including a communal washing line (Air) to decorate the park.
Other events planned will include “Elemental Shakespeare” with the 1623 Company from Derby, a celebration of “talk like a pirate day” on 19th September (Water) to be followed by a story telling event in October (Spirits) and Fire Sculptures in November (Fire). The elements season will culminate in the Christmas parade linked to the Victorian Christmas Market in December (Ice).
Phil Askham, Director of Matlock Live CIC said “the funding is a great opportunity to plan a series of activities which provide the opportunity to get involved on the community at the same time celebrating the visual and performing arts which is central to our mission. This is something we can build on in terms of long term sustainable community arts for the whole community.”
The Ammo Store Project
June 2009
The Ammo store is a redundant building in Hall Leys Park close to the bowling green and the boating lake. Owned by Derbyshire Dales District Council and last used as a mess room, it has been declared is surplus to requirements. We have identified this building as the ideal space for a community workshop facility which could be used by local artists and craftpeople as a focus for community based actitivities and events. Matlock Live supports the Ammo Store Project and would be interested to hear from local artists and groups with ideas for the use of the building. If you have any thoughts or ideas in relation to this project please contact us.
